Neighborhood & To Do's

In the heart of South Tyrol, above Bolzano, the Renon high plateau rises to sunny heights. Recreation seekers of all ages will find what they are looking for here. Breathtaking hiking trails, countless cycle paths and leisurely promenades through forests and meadows make the hearts of nature lovers beat faster. The proximity to Bolzano's old town with its small squares and alleyways and the good connections with the Renon train and cable car make Renon the perfect destination.

Summer getaways

This is what Renon is known for. Back in the early 17th century, Bolzano's bourgeoisie and nobility came up with the glorious idea of escaping the stifling heat in the valley basin and simply spending the summer months on the breezy and beautiful Renon with their children. The summer retreat was born and with it what we are now returning to at Villa Maier: Decelerated vacations, dolce far niente and enjoying nature.

The picture shows Anna Maier and her family on their summer retreat on the Wolfsgrubner Promenade.

To Bolzano in 25 min

The old town of Bolzano can be reached from our hotel in 25 minutes with the Renon cable car. It is a popular place with a very special atmosphere. The small squares and alleyways are perfect for a stroll and a Aperol Spritz. Bolzano also has numerous historic buildings, winding alleyways and unique museums.

Biking on the Renon

The Renon high plateau is ideal for bike tours. You will find all possible levels of difficulty. The highest point, the Corno del Renon  (2,260 m), probably offers you the most beautiful 360° panoramic view of the South Tyrolean mountains.
For racing cyclists, the serpentines of the Renon road are a challenging destination. You can take the train or the cable car to make the way home easier after long tours. Several times a year, car-free Bike Days take place on the passes of South Tyrol. We offer a lockable bike cellar for your bikes. You can hire e-bikes in Soprabolzano.

Horseback riding on the Renon

On horseback through the woods and meadows in a leisurely pace. There are several farms on the Renon that offer rides or riding lessons.
For children and adults alike, it's an experience you won't forget quickly.

Promenades on the Renon

What would the Renon be without its promenades, in the spirit of the summer getaway, a leisurely stroll along the beautiful promenades is almost a popular sport. The most famous is probably the Freud Promenade, named after the doctor Sigmund Freud who wrote about the Renon
“...here on the Renon it is divinely beautiful and comfortable”.
